Waiting game

I’ve been up since 3 a.m. baking cookies and cupcakes for our potluck dessert lunch at work today. I wasn’t able to bake them last night since I worked a casino party and then fell straight to sleep. Anywho, I slightly messed up the cookies and I completely burnt the cupcakes, so I’m a bit d-worded in myself. I’m afraid if I try to go back to sleep that I will just sleep through the day. So I don’t feel like writing a real update, so I’ll do the survey thingy that both Terri and Selina had on their sites.

a year in review

1. What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before? A lot of things actually. I was a bridesmaid – twice. I went to Mexico, where I had never been before. I spent a month trying new foods – fruits, vegetables, sushi. I rode in a 6-passenger plane a couple of times.

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don’t make resolutions. I just strive to be a better person – physically, mentally, personally, professionally – than the previous year. I think for 2009 I need to kick it in high gear.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Nope

4. Did anyone close to you die? Betty from work passed away after a short battle with cancer.

5. What countries did you visit? Mexico. It was definitely a much-needed vacation away from it all.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008? Um…more of a social life. I kinda became a homebody this year. I feel like my life is wasting away.

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? None really. Nothing major – either good or bad – happened to me this year.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? I honestly don’t think I achieved anything in 2008. It was a pretty unremarkable year for me. Definitely ranks as one of the lowest.

9. What was your biggest failure? Letting people’s actions get the best of me. I sorta slipped into a sad state for awhile.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Early 2008 was the start of some crazy eye problems. Luckily I haven’t had any problems for awhile.

11. What was the best thing you bought? After all the drama, and yelling and crying, I would have to say my car. I absolutely love it. And my new bedroom furniture. And the Twilight series.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? It’s sad to say, but nobody. Like I said, it wasn’t a good year.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? There were some friends who really upset me. And then of course my (ex) sister-in-law Kim. And a co-worker, but she no longer works with us.

14. Where did most of your money go? The car, the bedroom furniture, the dining room table and the daily trips to Target.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Once the car drama was solved, I was really excited about the car. And after the drama surrounding Mexico, I was also excited about getting the heck out of Texas for awhile.

16. What song will always remind you of 2008? Probably Flo Rida’s “Low” – that song played non-stop 24/7. You can only take so much.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? I can’t really remember much about 2007, so I’m going to say sadder.
ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter – boot camp helped me out, but I kinda let it slip a bit.
iii. richer or poorer? The same

18. What do you wish you’d done more of? I wish I had worked out more, maybe made some new friends.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of? Definitely wish I hadn’t been so dang emotional all the time.

20. How will you be spending Christmas? Corpus. God, I hate that city.

21. How will you be ringing in the New Year? I have no clue. At this rate, Gigi and I will be in bed before 9.

22. Did you fall in love in 2008? Ha.

23. Who was your hero? Edward Cullen

24. What was your favorite TV program? One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, So You Think You Can Dance

25. What was something you needed to do and didn’t get around to? Pay off my debt. But I’m working on it now.

26. What was the best book you read? I really enjoyed the Twilight series. Sometimes you just need a good book to get lost in.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery? The Twilight soundtrack opened my ears to some classical piano music. I thoroughly enjoyed it, so I’m going to start downloading more of it.

28. What did you want and get? Definitely the car.

29. What did you want and not get? I wanted butterflies…

30. What was your favorite film of this year? Hrm…I can’t remember all the 2008 movies. But some standouts were 27 Dresses, The Dark Knight, and of course Mamma Mia. I completely fell in love with the movie and soundtrack.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I turned 26. I really wanted to have a Sweet 16 10 Years Later sock hop, but due to some family issues that popped up right before, I wasn’t in the partying kind of mood. Co-workers treated me to lunch at Chili’s, and then friends treated me to Chuy’s for dinner.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? More vacations. I had some massive anxiety attacks this past year, so more vacations would have helped calm me down.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008? Same as always. My wardrobe is quite boring. Denise took me jewelry shopping a few weeks ago and then to Sephora this last weekend to buy some make-up. So I’m trying to expand my look slowly.

34. What kept you sane? Nothing. Like I said, anxiety attacks all around.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? None.

36. What political issue stirred you the most? No issue stands out – though the whole gay marriage thing was kind of ridiculous. I mean, why would the state of California make it legal just to overturn it months later. Stupid stupid stupid. I am glad the election is over though.

37. Who did you miss? My (ex) sister-in-law. My family on Thanksgiving.

38. Who was the best new person you met? Though I technically met Courtney (from work) in August 2007, we didn’t really start talking/hanging out until this year – mainly because we were joint partners on some projects. She’s pretty fun.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008: Even the non-profit workplace is a dog eat dog world. Keep your ideas to yourself or others will take them and pass them off as their own.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: I’m not good with song lyrics.
